{"id":1069,"date":"2026-06-05T11:08:28","date_gmt":"2026-06-05T11:08:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/reliablemovingcrews.com\/?p=1069"},"modified":"2026-06-05T11:08:28","modified_gmt":"2026-06-05T11:08:28","slug":"us-appeals-court-to-hear-challenge-to-trumps-white-house-ballroom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reliablemovingcrews.com\/?p=1069","title":{"rendered":"US appeals court to hear challenge to Trump&#8217;s White House ballroom"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Summary<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>WASHINGTON, June 5 (Reuters) &#8211; U.S. President Donald Trump\u2019s administration \u200bwill ask an appeals court on Friday to allow construction of a $400 million ballroom on the site \u200cof the White House&#8217;s demolished East Wing, pitting Trump against preservationists in a case testing the limits of presidential authority.<\/div>\n<div>The East Wing, part of the White House complex in Washington, traditionally housed the offices of the first lady and her staff.<\/div>\n<div>The National Trust for \u200bHistoric Preservation, a nonprofit group that campaigns to protect significant American sites, sued last year after the Trump administration \u200btore down the East Wing in October 2025 and began building a 90,000-square-foot (8,360-square-meter) ballroom without \u2060seeking authorization from Congress.<\/div>\n<div>Trump&#8217;s ballroom plan is part of a broader push by the Republican leader to reshape central Washington&#8217;s \u200blandscape of government buildings and national monuments.<\/div>\n<div>The hearing before a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the \u200bDistrict of Columbia Circuit, a powerful court one rung below the Supreme Court, is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. EDT (1330 GMT).<\/div>\n<div>U.S. District Judge Richard Leon, appointed by Republican former President George W. Bush, twice blocked above-ground construction on Trump\u2019s ballroom while allowing underground work to continue.<\/div>\n<div>Leon said no \u200bfederal statute even \u201ccomes close to giving the President\u201d the required authority to construct the ballroom without approval by Congress.<\/div>\n<div>The \u200badministration&#8217;s appeal is being heard by Democratic-appointed D.C. Circuit judges Patricia Millett and Bradley Garcia alongside Trump-appointed Judge Neomi Rao. In an order last \u200cmonth, \u2060the appeals court allowed construction to continue during the legal battle without ruling on the merits of the case.<\/div>\n<div>The administration has framed the ballroom project as a national security necessity, citing recent assassination attempts against Trump.<\/div>\n<div>\u201cThe East Wing Project answers that critical security need, and ensures that the President can fulfill his constitutional duties in a safe and heavily secured \u200bfacility,\u201d the Justice Department told \u200bthe appeals court in May.<\/div>\n<div>Preservationists \u2060reject that argument. The National Trust for Historic Preservation contends that the D.C.
