{"id":1157,"date":"2026-06-06T08:37:02","date_gmt":"2026-06-06T08:37:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/reliablemovingcrews.com\/?p=1157"},"modified":"2026-06-06T08:37:02","modified_gmt":"2026-06-06T08:37:02","slug":"airbus-in-limbo-over-early-launch-of-larger-a220-sources-say","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reliablemovingcrews.com\/?p=1157","title":{"rendered":"Airbus in limbo over early launch of larger A220, sources say"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Summary<\/li>\n<li>Companies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>PARIS\/RIO DE JANEIRO, June 5 (Reuters) &#8211; Airbus (AIR.PA)<svg><\/svg><span>, opens new tab<\/span> is wavering over when to launch a larger A220 jet due to a \u200cmuted response from powerful leasing companies and a debate over range and performance, six industry sources said.<\/div>\n<div>After whetting the appetite of buyers earlier this year for a launch as early as this summer&#8217;s Farnborough Airshow, Airbus has since toned down expectations.<\/div>\n<div>A senior Airbus executive said that a launch at Farnborough, being held in \u200blate July, was now &#8220;not probable&#8221;, although the planemaker has not ruled out it happening this year.<\/div>\n<div>&#8220;We are studying all the \u200boptions; no decisions have been made,&#8221; said an Airbus spokesperson.<\/div>\n<div>A larger version of the A220 would let Airbus \u2060renegotiate supplier contracts and lower production costs, which could help it turn around the loss-making programme it bought for a dollar in \u200b2018, after Canada&#8217;s Bombardier ran short of cash.<\/div>\n<div>The A220 programme remains in the red and has been losing orders to Brazilian rival Embraer (EMBJ3.SA)<svg><\/svg><span>, opens new tab<\/span>.<\/div>\n<div>Insiders \u200bsay Airbus has been touting a relatively modest upgrade known as a &#8220;simple stretch&#8221; with no increase in maximum takeoff weight or costly upgrade in the Pratt &amp; Whitney engines.<\/div>\n<div>The plane would carry some 180 people, up from 160 now, which would lead to a reduction of around 10% in costs per seat but less \u200brange, said two people familiar with the project.<\/div>\n<div>Not all airlines want to give up range, narrowing the pool of potential customers.
