June 7 (Reuters) – At least 21 Iraqis were killed and 19 others injured when a \u200bpassenger bus crashed and caught fire \u200cnear the southern city of Nassiriya on Sunday, police and health officials said.<\/div>\n
The accident \u200boccurred after the driver lost control \u200bof the bus on a highway near \u2060Nassiriya, causing the vehicle to overturn \u200band burst into flames, the officials \u200bsaid.<\/div>\n
Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi ordered an investigation into the causes of the crash and directed \u200bauthorities to submit a report on \u200bthe circumstances surrounding the accident, his office said.<\/div>\n
Police and \u200cmedical \u2060officials said 21 people were confirmed dead at the scene and in hospital, while 19 others were wounded.<\/div>\n
Most of \u200bthe injured \u200bwere in \u2060critical condition and suffering from severe burns, health officials said.<\/div>\n
The \u200bcause of the crash was \u200bunder \u2060investigation, police said.<\/div>\n
Road accidents are common in Iraq, where speeding, poor road conditions and \u2060inadequate \u200benforcement of traffic regulations \u200bcontribute to a high number of fatalities each year.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
