The dollar held to its strong gains made in the wake of the report that showed nonfarm payrolls increased by 172,000 \u200bjobs last month, far exceeding estimates.<\/div>\n<div>Against the dollar, the euro fell to a two-month low of $1.1507, while sterling struggled at \u200ba three-week trough of $1.33165.<\/div>\n<div>The Australian and New Zealand dollars similarly slid to their lowest in two months \u2060at $0.7016 and $0.5779, respectively.<\/div>\n<div>&#8220;The U.S. payrolls report &#8230; paints a picture of a U.S. labour market that is strengthening despite the ongoing energy \u200bprice shock,&#8221; said Jonas Goltermann, chief markets economist at Capital Economics.<\/div>\n<div>&#8220;That combination makes policy tightening by the Fed later this year increasingly probable &#8230; \u200bwe now expect the FOMC to deliver two 25-basis-point rate hikes later this year, in response to the energy supply shock and the re-acceleration of the U.S. labour market.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div>Prior to the release of the jobs report, traders had been gradually adding to bets on a Fed hike this year, as the \u200bglobal energy crisis tied to the Iran war threatens to stoke inflation.<\/div>\n<div>Israel said it struck military targets in western and central Iran on \u200bMonday, even after U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to refrain from further attacks.<\/div>\n<div>Markets are now pricing in a \u200cmore than \u206070% chance that the Fed will raise rates in December, sharply up from a 45% probability a week ago, according to the CME FedWatch tool.<\/div>\n<h2>YEN ON TENTERHOOKS<\/h2>\n<div>The strength in the dollar has in turn brought more pain for the yen, which fetched 160.33 per dollar .<\/div>\n<div>The Japanese currency has now erased its gains made in the wake of Tokyo&#8217;s 11.7 trillion yen ($73.01 billion) intervention just over a month ago, when it \u200bslid to its lowest since \u200bJuly 2024 at 160.725.<\/div>\n<div>Sources told \u2060Reuters that the BOJ is expected to raise interest rates this month unless a sharp escalation in the Middle East conflict upends markets, as rising fuel costs from the energy shock compound price pressures \u200bin the economy.<\/div>\n<div>&#8220;I think that leaves us in limbo for the yen, given that the hike \u200bis pretty much priced \u2060in,&#8221; said Sim Moh Siong, a strategist at OCBC.<\/div>\n<div>&#8220;In order for the yen to benefit further from rate-hike expectations, the market will be looking at whether the BOJ is going to telegraph a faster-than-expected pace of rate hikes.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div>In cryptocurrencies, bitcoin was up more than 1% to $62,615.25, rebounding \u2060after \u200bsliding to its lowest since October 2024 last week.<\/div>\n<div>Ether similarly rose over 1% to $1,652.23, having \u200balso slid to a 14-month low last week.<\/div>\n<div>Booming AI stocks and a series of glittering upcoming new listings such as SpaceX have lured capital away from bitcoin, leaving \u200bthe world&#8217;s largest cryptocurrency struggling since the start of the year.<\/div>\n<div>($1 = 160.2500 yen)<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/reliablemovingcrews.com\/?p=1340\">Gold extends losses on US interest rate-hike fears<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/reliablemovingcrews.com\/?p=1338\">Tumbling tech darlings slam brakes on AI rally<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/reliablemovingcrews.com\/?p=1336\">Oil prices climb more than $3 after Israeli strikes on Lebanon<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The dollar was perched near a \u200btwo-month high on Monday after a blowout U.S. jobs report sent traders ramping up bets on a Federal Reserve \u200crate hike this year, while the yen teetered further into the intervention zone.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":1341,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[38],"class_list":["post-1342","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-currencies"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 -
