{"id":1447,"date":"2026-06-09T07:38:37","date_gmt":"2026-06-09T07:38:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/reliablemovingcrews.com\/?p=1447"},"modified":"2026-06-09T07:38:37","modified_gmt":"2026-06-09T07:38:37","slug":"germany-and-france-drop-joint-fighter-jet-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reliablemovingcrews.com\/?p=1447","title":{"rendered":"Germany and France drop joint fighter jet project"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Summary<\/li>\n<li>Companies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>BERLIN\/PARIS, June 8 (Reuters) &#8211; The leaders of Germanyand France have agreed to scrap a landmark project to \u200bdevelop and build a new-generation fighter jet, officials said on Monday, bowing to industrial rivalries over Europe&#8217;s most ambitious defence programme.<\/div>\n<div>German Chancellor Friedrich Merz \u200cand French President Emmanuel Macron discussed the troubled project on the sidelines of the EU-Western Balkans summit in Montenegro last week and concluded that there was no prospect of breaking months of deadlock between arms firms involved in the plan, German officials said.<\/div>\n<div>Merz has therefore advised Macron not to pursue the construction of a joint fighter aircraft any further, they said.<\/div>\n<div>Macron&#8217;s office said the two \u200bhad discussed the project at length and regretted that the main industry partners, European aerospace group Airbus (AIR.PA)<svg><\/svg><span>, opens new tab<\/span>, which represents Germany and Spain, and \u200bFrance&#8217;s Dassault Aviation (AM.PA)<svg><\/svg><span>, opens new tab<\/span>, had not been able to reach an agreement.<\/div>\n<div>The decision to end the core pillar of Europe&#8217;s largest \u2060defence project comes at a time when Western military officials have warned of a growing threat from Russia and the U.S. is stepping up pressure for Europe to \u200bre-arm itself.<\/div>\n<div>Macron launched the project with former German Chancellor Angela Merkel in 2017 and has defended it for months.
