{"id":1623,"date":"2026-06-11T05:08:32","date_gmt":"2026-06-11T05:08:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/reliablemovingcrews.com\/?p=1623"},"modified":"2026-06-11T05:08:32","modified_gmt":"2026-06-11T05:08:32","slug":"taiwan-says-its-sovereignty-cannot-be-violated-as-china-ends-coast-guard-patrol","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reliablemovingcrews.com\/?p=1623","title":{"rendered":"Taiwan says its sovereignty cannot be &#8216;violated&#8217;, as China ends coast guard patrol"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Summary<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>TAIPEI, June 11 (Reuters) &#8211; Taiwan&#8217;s maritime \u200csovereignty cannot be &#8220;violated&#8221; by Chinese efforts to create a false impression of jurisdiction, the island&#8217;s coast guard said after China ended a patrol off its eastern shores.<\/div>\n<div>China, which claims democratically governed Taiwan as its own territory, was angered after \u200bJapan and the Philippines said last month they would begin formal talks on their maritime \u200bboundaries, viewing that as involving waters off Taiwan.<\/div>\n<div>Late on Saturday, Chinese state media \u2060reported that ships had been sent to carry out a &#8220;special maritime traffic law-enforcement operation&#8221; and inspect \u200bshipping in waters east of Taiwan in response to the Japanese and Philippine announcement.<\/div>\n<div>Late on Wednesday, Chinese \u200bstate media said the patrol had ended, after it had &#8220;inspected 198 passing vessels and rectified violations involving three ships&#8221;, carried out a hydrographic survey and patrolled areas where undersea cables are located.<\/div>\n<div>Taiwan&#8217;s coast guard said Beijing has no jurisdiction \u200bin those waters and that whenever Chinese ships appear, Taiwan&#8217;s own vessels will &#8220;forcefully drive them away, \u200band maintain the freedom and safety of navigation&#8221;.<\/div>\n<div>&#8220;Our nation&#8217;s maritime sovereignty cannot be violated,&#8221; Taiwan&#8217;s coast guard said in \u200ca statement. &#8220;Any \u2060country that asserts jurisdiction will be expelled without exception.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div>Chinese state media put out a picture of a basic map of its ships&#8217; operations, showing arrows encircling Taiwan.<\/div>\n<h2>MERCHANT SHIPS &#8216;HARASSED&#8217; BY CHINA<\/h2>\n<div>Taiwan said this week that three passing merchant ships in the area were &#8220;harassed&#8221; by the Chinese coast guard which asked them \u200bfor information about their point \u200bof origin and \u2060destination and claimed jurisdiction.<\/div>\n<div>Taiwan Coast Guard spokesman Hsieh Ching-chin told reporters on Thursday that some of those ships did respond to the Chinese vessels with \u200binformation like their next port of call.<\/div>\n<div>China &#8220;has no sovereign rights whatsoever in the \u200bwaters east \u2060of Taiwan&#8221;, he added.<\/div>\n<div>&#8220;Our Coast Guard Administration will, regardless of nationality, expel without exception any vessel involved in asserting jurisdiction, in order to defend our sovereignty,&#8221; Hsieh said.<\/div>\n<div>China recognises no sovereignty claimed by Taiwan, and \u2060Chinese warships and \u200bwarplanes operate around the island on an almost daily basis.<\/div>\n<div>Taiwan&#8217;s \u200bgovernment says only the island&#8217;s people can decide their future, and President Lai Ching-te has repeatedly offered talks with China.
