WASHINGTON, June 12 (Reuters) – A U.S. judge indefinitely blocked a $1.8 \u200bbillion “anti-weaponization” fund supported by President Donald \u200cTrump on Friday, giving the administration one week to provide a sworn statement \u200bthat the fund will not \u200bgo forward.<\/div>\n
Judge Leonie Brinkema of the \u2060U.S. District Court for the \u200bEastern District of Virginia issued a preliminary \u200binjunction blocking the fund.<\/div>\n
The judge issued a temporary halt to the fund last week \u200bthat was set to expire on \u200bFriday.<\/div>\n
The fund emerged from a settlement agreement \u200cbetween \u2060Trump and the Justice Department over the president’s $10 billion lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service.<\/div>\n
The Justice Department \u200bset up \u200ba $1.776 \u2060billion fund overseen by a five-member commission to dole \u200bout payments to those who \u200bshow \u2060they were victims of “lawfare” and “weaponization,” terms Trump and his allies have used \u2060to \u200bdescribe investigations and criminal \u200bcases against them.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
