{"id":1885,"date":"2026-06-13T18:06:30","date_gmt":"2026-06-13T18:06:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/reliablemovingcrews.com\/?p=1885"},"modified":"2026-06-13T18:06:30","modified_gmt":"2026-06-13T18:06:30","slug":"us-india-to-tackle-trade-at-g7-but-deal-not-imminent-us-officials-say","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reliablemovingcrews.com\/?p=1885","title":{"rendered":"US, India to tackle trade at G7 but deal not imminent, US officials say"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Summary<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>WASHINGTON, June 13 (Reuters) &#8211; U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson \u200bGreer will travel to India the week after the G7 leaders summit for further discussions on a possible trade deal, \u200ca senior U.S. administration official said on Saturday, saying an agreement was possible.<\/div>\n<div>Trade would be discussed during President Donald Trump&#8217;s meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during next week&#8217;s gathering in France, but no agreement on a trade deal was expected at the summit, the official said.<\/div>\n<div>&#8220;We know that Prime Minister Modi is \u200bquite ambitious about the role he sees for India, the importance of the U.S.-India relationship,&#8221; the official told reporters. &#8220;We think a \u200bpotential trade deal is part of that.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div>Trump would insist on reaching &#8220;a very good deal,&#8221; the official said, adding: &#8220;We \u2060think a very good deal is possible. I don&#8217;t think we&#8217;ll close that deal at the G7.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div>The Group of Seven summit, to be \u200bheld June 15 to 17 in the French town of Evian-les-Bains, will bring together leaders from the world&#8217;s major economies, including Trump, alongside \u200bhigh-level delegations from other countries such as India.<\/div>\n<div>Ties between New Delhi and Washington have been strained by U.S. tariffs on Indian goods and Trump&#8217;s repeated assertions \u2014 which India denies \u2014 that he intervened to end India&#8217;s brief conflict last year with Pakistan.<\/div>\n<div>But the mood has improved in recent weeks, and the country&#8217;s trade minister, Piyush \u200bGoyal, last week said the first tranche of a bilateral trade agreement could be concluded by mid-July.
