{"id":199,"date":"2026-05-25T15:42:29","date_gmt":"2026-05-25T15:42:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/reliablemovingcrews.com\/?p=199"},"modified":"2026-05-25T15:42:29","modified_gmt":"2026-05-25T15:42:29","slug":"turkeys-pro-kurdish-party-condemns-ousting-of-main-opposition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reliablemovingcrews.com\/?p=199","title":{"rendered":"Turkey&#8217;s pro-Kurdish party condemns ousting of main opposition"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Summary<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>ANKARA, May 25 (Reuters) &#8211; Turkey&#8217;s pro-Kurdish DEM Party condemned on Monday a court ruling that \u200bousted the leadership of the main opposition CHP last week, calling a police operation to evict the \u200cleaders from the party&#8217;s headquarters a &#8220;disgrace to democracy&#8221;.<\/div>\n<div>Riot police fired tear gas and forced their way into the Republican People&#8217;s Party&#8217;s (CHP) headquarters in Ankara on Sunday, evicting ousted leader Ozgur Ozel, whose party has rejected the ruling as a &#8220;judicial coup&#8221; and vowed to fight it.<\/div>\n<div>Joining smaller opposition parties&#8217; \u200bcriticism of the appeals court ruling as anti-democratic, the DEM &#8211; parliament&#8217;s third-biggest party &#8211; denounced the ruling and Sunday&#8217;s \u200bpolice intervention.<\/div>\n<div>Speaking to reporters after visiting Ozel in parliament, DEM Party co-chair Tuncer Bakirhan called the \u2060police action &#8220;shameful and unacceptable&#8221;, saying the handling of the incident by security forces was &#8220;a disgrace to democracy and a scandal \u200bfor the rule of law&#8221;.<\/div>\n<div>&#8220;The fate of political parties should not be determined by courts; it should be determined by their \u200bmembers and the choices of their voters,&#8221; Bakirhan added.<\/div>\n<h2>KEY ROLE IN PEACE TALKS<\/h2>\n<div>The DEM is the third parliamentary force behind the CHP and the ruling AK Party (AKP) of President Tayyip Erdogan.<\/div>\n<div>It helped facilitate steps toward peace between the Turkish state and the outlawed Kurdistan Workers&#8217; Party (PKK), whose conflict has \u200bkilled more than 40,000 people since 1984.<\/div>\n<div>But it has been critical of the government&#8217;s handling of the peace process, calling \u200bfor it to take more concrete steps towards democratisation.
