June 15 (Reuters) – SpaceX (SPCX.O)<\/svg>, opens new tab<\/span> has raised $85.7 billion in its U.S. \u200binitial public offering after underwriters exercised \u200cthe “greenshoe” option, the rocket, AI and internet company founded by Elon Musk said on \u200bMonday.<\/div>\n
Shares of SpaceX jumped 19% \u200bin their Nasdaq debut on Friday, \u2060lifting the company’s market capitalization above $2 \u200btrillion and making Musk the world’s \u200bfirst trillionaire. The company had priced its offering of 555.56 million shares at $135 apiece.<\/div>\n
SpaceX’s IPO \u200bincluded a so-called greenshoe option, a standard \u200bfeature of most large U.S. stock market listings \u200cthat \u2060acts as a safety valve, helping underwriters support the stock and limit sharp price swings in the weeks \u200bafter trading \u200bbegins.<\/div>\n
The IPO \u2060dwarfed every stock market listing on record globally, surpassing \u200boil giant Saudi Aramco’s 2019 \u200blisting, \u2060which had previously held the title of the world’s largest IPO.<\/div>\n
The stock was \u2060up \u200b6.4% in early trading \u200bon Monday, adding to Friday’s gains.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
