{"id":2151,"date":"2026-06-16T20:41:54","date_gmt":"2026-06-16T20:41:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/reliablemovingcrews.com\/?p=2151"},"modified":"2026-06-16T20:41:54","modified_gmt":"2026-06-16T20:41:54","slug":"us-senators-ask-for-review-of-teslas-full-self-driving-safety-data-citing-reuters-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reliablemovingcrews.com\/?p=2151","title":{"rendered":"US senators ask for review of Tesla&#8217;s &#8216;Full Self-Driving&#8217; safety data, citing Reuters report"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><div><div><ul><li>Companies<\/li><\/ul><\/div><div><ul><li><svg><\/svg><div><div><div><button><span><span>Follow<\/span><\/span><\/button><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div><div>LOS ANGELES, June 16 (Reuters) &#8211; Two U.S. senators are asking the nation\u2019s traffic safety regulator to examine Tesla&#8217;s (TSLA.O)<svg><\/svg><span>, opens new tab<\/span> self-published \u200bcrash statistics for its \u201cFull Self-Driving\u201d (FSD) driver-assistance system, following a Reuters investigation last \u200cmonth that found the EV maker was exaggerating its safety claims.<\/div><div>Democratic senators Edward Markey of Massachusetts and Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut  to the U.S. National Highway Traffic \u200bSafety Administration (NHTSA) on Monday, citing the Reuters report and saying the analysis \u200bunderlying Tesla\u2019s FSD safety statistics<svg><\/svg><span>, opens new tab<\/span> is \u201cweak and misleading,\u201d creating \u201can urgent safety \u2060problem.\u201d<\/div><div>The letter asks NHTSA to write back by July 7 to answer a series \u200bof questions, including whether the agency has evaluated Tesla\u2019s FSD safety claims or \u200basked for the underlying crash data used to make the claims. The senators also urge NHTSA to strengthen reporting requirements for companies using self-driving technology or advanced driver-assistance systems like \u200bTesla\u2019s FSD, saying the agency has no way of knowing whether \u201cpublic safety \u200bclaims bear any relationship to reality.\u201d<\/div><div>Tesla did not respond to requests for comment.<\/div><div>NHTSA said it \u200creceived the \u2060letter and is reviewing it.<\/div><div>The Reuters examination last month found that Tesla CEO Elon Musk and other leaders over the past year have increasingly cited statistics they say prove FSD is up to 10 times safer than human \u200bdrivers. Researchers interviewed by \u200bReuters said Tesla \u2060exaggerates the technology\u2019s safety by comparing a rate of crashes in FSD-piloted Teslas that triggered airbag deployments to a \u200bU.S. crash rate for all vehicles that includes far less \u200bsevere accidents.<\/div><div>The \u2060company also compares its cars to the average U.S. vehicle, which is much older than the average Tesla.
