LONDON, June 17 (Reuters) – The world oil market will recover gradually from the closure \u200bof the Strait of Hormuz before tipping into \u200ca significant surplus in 2027, the International Energy Agency said in its monthly oil market report on Wednesday.<\/div>\n
The U.S. \u200band Iran reached an agreement to end the \u200bthree-month-old war, which includes Iran reopening the Strait of \u2060Hormuz and the U.S. lifting its naval blockade, \u200bpotentially bringing an end to the largest oil supply \u200bdisruption in history which shut in over 14 million barrels per day of Middle East oil output, according to the IEA.<\/div>\n
“If \u200bthe deal holds, exports and production from the \u200bGulf should see a gradual recovery \u2013 not least because Iranian oil \u200cexports \u2060can fully resume once the U.S. blockade is lifted,” the agency, which advises industrialised countries, said.<\/div>\n
The oil market will then enter a significant supply overhang next \u200byear, the \u200bIEA said \u2060in its first look at 2027, with global oil supply set to surge by \u200b8 million bpd and demand rising by \u200bjust \u20602 million bpd.<\/div>\n
“This may provide a welcome respite to the market and an opportunity to replenish depleted inventories, \u2060or \u200bto build new strategic reserves, \u200bas countries review their energy strategies and policies in response to the \u200bcrisis.”<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
