The company also \u2060pointed to cost pressures resulting from the Iran war.<\/div>\n<div>Analysts said after \u200ba call with BMW management to explain the gloomier outlook that \u200bit could axe jobs in Europe and speed up efforts to localise production in North America and China.<\/div>\n<div>&#8220;We are initially working on viable solutions, through \u200bdialogue and with a sense of responsibility toward our employees,&#8221; \u200bthe works council spokesperson said in an emailed response to Reuters, without giving \u200cfurther \u2060details.<\/div>\n<div>Unlike Germany&#8217;s Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz (MBGn.DE)<svg><\/svg><span>, opens new tab<\/span>, BMW has not yet announced sweeping redundancy programmes, although its total workforce did fall slightly in 2025, a trend expected to continue this year.<\/div>\n<div>BMW&#8217;s shares plunged to a \u200bnear six-year low \u200bfollowing the \u2060announcement, in which new CEO Milan Nedeljkovic vowed to intensify structural cost-cutting, flagging a one-off effect as \u200ba result in the second half of 2026.<\/div>\n<div>It \u200bcurrently \u2060expects a reduction in its global workforce of up to 5% by the end of 2026.
