{"id":2451,"date":"2026-06-20T05:08:39","date_gmt":"2026-06-20T05:08:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/reliablemovingcrews.com\/?p=2451"},"modified":"2026-06-20T05:08:39","modified_gmt":"2026-06-20T05:08:39","slug":"us-appeals-court-blocks-trump-admin-from-enacting-new-plans-to-slash-consumer-watchdog-staff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reliablemovingcrews.com\/?p=2451","title":{"rendered":"US appeals court blocks Trump admin from enacting new plans to slash consumer watchdog staff"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Companies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li><svg><\/svg>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div><button><span><span>Follow<\/span><\/span><\/button><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>June 19 (Reuters) &#8211; A federal appeals court on Friday blocked the Trump administration&#8217;s plans to immediately slash the workforce at the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection \u200bBureau by about two-thirds, delivering a setback to the White House&#8217;s protracted \u200cefforts to shrink the consumer watchdog.<\/div>\n<div>The order from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit came in response to a revised plan the Justice Department submitted \u200bin late March following repeated legal defeats over its plans to decimate \u200bif not eliminate the CFPB.<\/div>\n<div>The appeals court had been reviewing the \u2060administration&#8217;s appeal of a March 2025 injunction by a federal district court \u200bjudge which temporarily barred the mass terminations.<\/div>\n<div>The Justice Department, which previously tried to cut up \u200bto 90% of employees, had argued that it should be permitted to carry out its new plan immediately.<\/div>\n<div>It also argued that the case should be returned to the district \u200bjudge with a 45-day deadline to reassess the injunction.<\/div>\n<div>The appeals court on \u200bFriday granted the administration&#8217;s motion to return the case to the district court, but \u200crejected \u2060the requests to resume staff cuts or impose a deadline on the district judge.<\/div>\n<div>The CFPB was created by Congress after the 2008 financial crash to police consumer financial products.<\/div>\n<div>Trump and other high-ranking officials have called for \u200bthe agency to \u200bbe abolished, accusing \u2060it of being a politicized burden on free enterprise. Democrats and agency defenders say damaging the agency amounts \u200bto a giveaway to industry at the expense of \u200bconsumers.<\/div>\n<div>Barred legally \u2060from enacting the most drastic actions, the administration has taken other measures to weaken the agency.<\/div>\n<div>In May, the agency said it would reassign all staff to \u2060its \u200bWashington headquarters, a move likely to drive \u200bresignations.
