{"id":2482,"date":"2026-06-20T10:06:50","date_gmt":"2026-06-20T10:06:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/reliablemovingcrews.com\/?p=2482"},"modified":"2026-06-20T10:06:50","modified_gmt":"2026-06-20T10:06:50","slug":"woman-killed-1700-evacuated-in-beach-hotel-fire-in-dominican-republic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reliablemovingcrews.com\/?p=2482","title":{"rendered":"Woman killed, 1,700 evacuated in beach hotel fire in Dominican Republic"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>SANTO DOMINGO, June 19 (Reuters) &#8211; A woman was killed and nearly 1,700 tourists were evacuated due to a large \u200bfire at a hotel in the Dominican beach resort of Bayahibe, local \u200cauthorities said on Friday.<\/div>\n<div>Francesca Valentino, a 46-year-old Italian woman, was killed in the fire at the Viva Wyndham Dominicus Beach Hotel (WH.N)<svg><\/svg><span>, opens new tab<\/span>, the DAEH emergency \u200bservice said in a statement.<\/div>\n<div>Three people were taken to \u200bmedical facilities and six others were treated on site, \u2060DAEH said. Those affected included guests, visitors and emergency responders.<\/div>\n<div>Videos \u200bshared by local media showed dark clouds of smoke billowing \u200bout above the Caribbean coastline, as flames engulfed the resort&#8217;s straw roof.<\/div>\n<div>&#8220;Preliminary observations indicate that the fire spread rapidly due to the flammable nature \u200bof parts of the roof structures made of palm, as \u200bwell as wind conditions,&#8221; the country&#8217;s Emergency Operations Center (COE) said.<\/div>\n<div>Wyndham Hotels and Resorts, \u200cwhich \u2060franchises some 8,400 hotels worldwide, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/div>\n<div>The fire was brought under control but its causes were still being investigated, the operations center said.
