PARIS, June 20 (Reuters) – Claude Guillemot, who co-founded French video-game publisher Ubisoft (UBIP.PA)<\/svg>, opens new tab<\/span> with his brothers in 1986, \u200bhas died, the company said on Saturday.<\/div>\n
“Ubisoft \u200cwas deeply saddened to learn of the death of Claude Guillemot, co-founder of the group and chairman \u200bof Guillemot Corp, in an accident,” the \u200bstatement said.<\/div>\n
“Our thoughts are with his family \u2060and loved ones during this difficult time. No \u200bfurther statements will be made at this time.” \u200bit added.<\/div>\n
Guillemot, 69, died Friday in a plane crash in La Baule, a resort town on France’s Atlantic \u200bcoast that was scheduled to host an \u200bair show this weekend, newspaper Ouest-France reported.<\/div>\n
He was one of \u200ctwo \u2060people aboard the twin-engine Cessna 421 plane, the newspaper said. Both passengers died in the incident, Ouest-France said.<\/div>\n
Guillemot helped transform Ubisoft from a \u200bmail-order software \u200bbusiness into \u2060one of the world’s largest video game companies, before serving as chair \u200bof the family’s hardware arm Guillemot \u200bCorporation.<\/div>\n
He \u2060worked largely behind the scenes as the operational backbone of the family’s broader entertainment business, while \u2060his \u200bbrother Yves became the public \u200bface of the gaming giant as its long-serving CEO.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
