{"id":2655,"date":"2026-06-22T10:39:50","date_gmt":"2026-06-22T10:39:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/reliablemovingcrews.com\/?p=2655"},"modified":"2026-06-22T10:39:50","modified_gmt":"2026-06-22T10:39:50","slug":"dozens-injured-18-missing-after-blast-during-restart-at-giant-qatar-lng-site","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reliablemovingcrews.com\/?p=2655","title":{"rendered":"Dozens injured, 18 missing after blast during restart at giant Qatar LNG site"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Summary<\/li>\n<li>Companies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>DOHA June 22 (Reuters) &#8211; Fifty-four people were injured and 18 are missing after an explosion at \u200cQatar&#8217;s massive Ras Laffan liquefied natural (LNG) gas complex which occurred as workers were restarting operations halted after an Iranian attack in March.<\/div>\n<div>Authorities said a &#8216;technical accident&#8217; occurred at the Barzan local gas supply facility \u200bon Sunday evening and that there was no threat to public safety.<\/div>\n<div>The blast \u200brattled windows and was felt across central Doha, panicking residents more \u2060than 70 kilometres from Ras Laffan.<\/div>\n<div>Qatar&#8217;s Interior Ministry said in a statement that 54 \u200bpeople had been injured and rescue teams were looking for 18 missing people.<\/div>\n<div>Emergency response \u200bteams were deployed and the fire has since been brought under control.<\/div>\n<div>QatarEnergy did not say whether the explosion had caused any damage to the plant, which supplies pipeline gas to local industry and \u200bQatar&#8217;s power generation sector.<\/div>\n<div>It can also produce ethane, condensate, liquefied petroleum gas and sulphur \u200bfor domestic and export markets.<\/div>\n<div>Qatar, which hosts a major U.S. military base, has come under repeated Iranian \u200cmissile \u2060and drone attacks during the Iran war.<\/div>\n<div>It has been among the hardest hit by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz as it has no alternative routes to export its LNG. The closure trapped around 20% of global LNG supply in the Gulf \u200bbefore shipments began to \u200bresume recently.<\/div>\n<div>The facility \u2060is located in Ras Laffan Industrial City, QatarEnergy&#8217;s primary site for LNG production and export with an annual production capacity of 77 \u200bmillion metric tons.<\/div>\n<div>An Iranian missile attack in March struck two \u200bof its \u2060key gas-processing units, slashing about 17% of Qatar&#8217;s LNG export capacity which QatarEnergy CEO Saad al-Kaabi told Reuters would take three to five years to repair.<\/div>\n<div>The war also forced the company to evacuate about 10,000 \u2060workers from \u200boffshore rigs and onshore processing plants.
