WASHINGTON, June 22 (Reuters) – The U.S. Treasury Department \u200bauthorized the production, delivery and sale of Iranian oil \u200con Monday, a move promised under an agreement reached by Washington and Tehran last week.<\/div>\n
The general license, announced as the two sides continue \u200btalks aimed at reaching a final peace deal, allows \u200bthe production, delivery and sale of crude oil and petrochemical \u2060and petroleum products of Iranian-origin through August 21.<\/div>\n
“In line \u200bwith the ongoing productive talks in Switzerland, Iran has committed to \u200bfree and open transit in the Strait of Hormuz and to permit International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors into their country,” Treasury Secretary Scott \u200bBessent said in a post on X.<\/div>\n
“As part of the \u200bframework, Treasury has issued a temporary 60-day general license authorizing the production, \u200cdelivery, \u2060and sale of Iranian oil.”<\/div>\n
Under the memorandum of understanding signed last week between Washington and Tehran, the United States agreed to issue waivers for the export of Iranian crude oil, \u200bpetroleum products, and \u200bderivatives, and all \u2060associated services, including banking transactions, insurances, and transportation.<\/div>\n
Transactions authorized in Monday’s general license include importation \u200bof Iranian-origin crude oil, petrochemical and petroleum products \u200bto \u2060the United States.<\/div>\n
The license says Iranian oil can be imported into the United States under the waiver when necessary to complete \u2060its \u200bsale or delivery.<\/div>\n
It does not authorize \u200btransactions involving North Korea or Cuba, countries heavily sanctioned by the United States.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
