INGLEWOOD, California June 21 (Reuters) – Iran left a message in their SoFi Stadium locker room on Sunday thanking Los Angeles for its hospitality \u200bduring the World Cup and saying they are leaving \u200cwith dignity after a 0-0 draw with Belgium kept alive their hopes of reaching the knockout stages.<\/div>\n
Los Angeles hosted both of Iran’s Group G \u200bmatches so far, with the team returning to their \u200bbase in Tijuana, Mexico between games.<\/div>\n
Iran have spent the tournament \u2060based in Tijuana commuting to the U.S. for their matches \u200bbecause of restrictions surrounding their stay in the country, while a \u200bnumber of Iran’s team staff and officials have been banned.<\/div>\n
U.S. officials have said the squad’s travel arrangements would continue to be assessed, while discussions over \u200beasing some restrictions have continued.<\/div>\n
“From the ancient Persia of thousands \u200bof years ago to the civilized Iran of today, the spirit of Iran \u200cremains \u2060alive and steadfast,” read the handwritten note, which was released by Iran’s football federation.<\/div>\n
“Thank you Los Angeles for your hospitality.<\/div>\n
“We came to Los Angeles with pride, competed with honor, and leave with \u200bdignity.”<\/div>\n
The note also \u200bthanked Iranian \u2060supporters who gave their “heart, voice and soul” for the team during the two matches and ended \u200bwith a call for peace, respect and friendship among \u200ball \u2060nations.<\/div>\n
Iran coach Amir Ghalenoei has repeatedly criticised the travel restrictions imposed on the side, saying the team has faced challenges no other \u2060side have \u200bhad to endure.<\/div>\n
Iran, who drew 2-2 \u200bwith New Zealand in their opener at SoFi Stadium, play their final group match \u200bagainst Egypt in Seattle.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
