{"id":2796,"date":"2026-06-24T04:40:57","date_gmt":"2026-06-24T04:40:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/reliablemovingcrews.com\/?p=2796"},"modified":"2026-06-24T04:40:57","modified_gmt":"2026-06-24T04:40:57","slug":"automakers-could-halt-car-sales-in-california-without-delay-in-vehicle-tracking-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reliablemovingcrews.com\/?p=2796","title":{"rendered":"Automakers could halt car sales in California without delay in vehicle tracking law"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Companies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li><svg><\/svg>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div><button><span><span>Follow<\/span><\/span><\/button><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li><svg><\/svg>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div><button><span><span>Follow<\/span><\/span><\/button><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li><svg><\/svg>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div><button><span><span>Follow<\/span><\/span><\/button><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>June 23 (Reuters) &#8211; A group representing major automakers warned on Tuesday that car companies may be forced to halt sales of both \u200bnew and used vehicles in California on July 1 unless the state \u200cdelays vehicle technology rules that aim to prevent perpetrators of domestic violence from tracking survivors.<\/div>\n<div>The Alliance for Automotive Innovation, which represents General Motors (GM.N)<svg><\/svg><span>, opens new tab<\/span>, Toyota (7203.T)<svg><\/svg><span>, opens new tab<\/span>, Volkswagen (VOWG.DE)<svg><\/svg><span>, opens new tab<\/span>, Hyundai (005380.KS)<svg><\/svg><span>, opens new tab<\/span> and most other automakers, said unless \u200ba legislative proposal is signed into law by July 1 &#8220;there is substantial \u200brisk that auto sales in California will be suspended.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div>The group said \u2060automakers are implementing the domestic violence victim protections required under the 2024 law &#8220;but \u200bcompliance with some elements of the law is impossible this year.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div>California is the single \u200blargest U.S. auto market, accounting for about 10% of sales.<\/div>\n<div>The 2024 California law requires automakers to set up a clear process for drivers to submit a copy of a restraining order or \u200bother documentation and request termination of another driver&#8217;s remote access within two business days. \u200bIt also mandated that carmakers enable drivers to easily turn off location access from inside the \u200cvehicle.<\/div>\n<div>\u2060Automakers have implemented the law\u2019s online process to seek termination of another person\u2019s access to connected vehicle services.<\/div>\n<div>A bill before the state legislature would extend deadlines for in-vehicle technologies that automakers said require extensive engineering, testing and integration across different makes, \u200bmodels, model years \u200band vehicle systems.<\/div>\n<div>\u2060The automaker group urged the bill be approved and signed into law by next week to avoid an impact on auto \u200bsales.<\/div>\n<div>A spokesperson for California Governor Gavin Newsom declined to comment.<\/div>\n<div>\u200bIn 2024, \u2060legislative analysts cited reporting from Reuters and the New York Times about carmakers which did not help women who alleged they were being targeted by their partners.
