His views on the economy, regulation and financial markets are closely watched by investors and policymakers alike.<\/div><div>The question of Dimon&#8217;s eventual successor has for years been one of the most discussed transition sagas in corporate America.<\/div><div>JPMorgan said on Thursday \u200bthat Rohrbaugh will become CEO of consumer and community banking, replacing Lake, who will retire after more than 25 years with the lender.<\/div><div>Petno will become CEO of the commercial and investment bank.<\/div><div>&#8220;The \u200bchanges announced today mark an important step in our Board&#8217;s thoughtful process around succession planning and development of our top leaders,&#8221; Dimon said.<\/div><div>JPMorgan shares were last \u2060up 2% in morning trading.<\/div><h2>DEPARTURE OF LAKE A SURPRISE<\/h2><div>Lake had been floated by analysts and in media reports as a potential contender for the top job, along with fellow veteran executive Jennifer Piepszak, who took herself \u200bout of the running last year and was appointed chief operating officer.<\/div><div>Her departure left analysts and investors puzzled.<\/div><div>&#8220;It is very surprising that Lake wasn&#8217;t chosen. There was a feeling that JPMorgan could be another bank with \u200ba woman CEO but that is unlikely to happen now,&#8221; said Walter Todd, chief investment officer at Greenwood Capital Management, which owns JPMorgan shares.<\/div><div>Investors are already wondering if she could find a top role at another bank or financial company.<\/div><div>&#8220;It wouldn&#8217;t be surprising if she ends up at a competitor bank after some time. Citi has been snapping up some top executives and is in growth mode and could be a potential next stop for Lake,&#8221; said Brian Mulberry, portfolio manager at \u200bZacks Investment Management which holds JPMorgan shares.<\/div><div>During her time at JPMorgan, Lake served as the bank&#8217;s CEO of consumer lending, as well as chief financial officer.<\/div><div>She and Piepszak were among the executives who oversaw the \u200bintegration of the failed First Republic Bank after JPMorgan bought it last year. It was JPMorgan&#8217;s first acquisition of this scale since its Financial Crisis-era takeovers of Bear Stearns and Washington Mutual.<\/div><div>&#8220;She (Lake) has been an outstanding partner and friend \u200cand has dedicated \u2060her career to championing our people and customers,&#8221; Dimon wrote in a memo to employees.<\/div><div>The bank also awarded Petno and Rohrbaugh one-time retention bonuses of $30 million each, while Piepszak and Mary Erdoes, who will remain CEO of asset and wealth management, each received $20 million.<\/div><div>&#8220;The 2 co-presidents become the front-runners,&#8221; analysts at Wells Fargo, led by Mike Mayo, wrote in a note. The brokerage, however, added that they would not rule out Piepszak, Chief Financial Officer Jeremy Barnum or even an external candidate, although they expect the bank to favor an internal successor.<\/div><h2>THE DIMON ERA<\/h2><div>Dimon became the CEO of JPMorgan in January 2006 and took on the role of chairman \u200bof the board a year later.<\/div><div>Under his leadership, \u200bthe bank has climbed to the top of \u2060Wall Street, both in terms of assets and market value.
