{"id":2971,"date":"2026-06-26T05:08:40","date_gmt":"2026-06-26T05:08:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/reliablemovingcrews.com\/?p=2971"},"modified":"2026-06-26T05:08:40","modified_gmt":"2026-06-26T05:08:40","slug":"australia-considers-tougher-enforcement-of-social-media-ban-for-teens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reliablemovingcrews.com\/?p=2971","title":{"rendered":"Australia considers tougher enforcement of social media ban for teens"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><div><div><ul><li>Summary<\/li><li>Companies<\/li><\/ul><\/div><div><\/div><\/div><div>SYDNEY, June 26 (Reuters) &#8211; Australia&#8217;s prime minister \u200bsaid on Friday he was keen to make sure the country&#8217;s social media ban \u200cfor children was as strong as possible, as a new study found that the measure \u2014 the first of its kind and now six months old \u2014 had little impact on teen use.<\/div><div>The government plans to stress-test the law which bans platforms \u200blike Meta&#8217;s (META.O)<svg><\/svg><span>, opens new tab<\/span> Instagram and Google&#8217;s (GOOGL.O)<svg><\/svg><span>, opens new tab<\/span> YouTube from giving under-16s accounts.<\/div><div>&#8220;What we want to do is \u200bto make sure that the laws are as strong as possible and that they \u2060will withstand any legal challenges which are made,&#8221; Prime Minister Anthony Albanese told the Australian Broadcasting \u200bCorp.<\/div><div>He added that one key focus would be making sure that the eSafety Commission, the country&#8217;s internet regulator, \u200bwas sufficiently empowered to do the job.<\/div><div>Albanese did not give further details about what steps the government would take and the regulator declined to comment.<\/div><div>Australia&#8217;s groundbreaking experiment is being closely watched with countries around the world seeking to emulate it \u200bamid concern about youth mental and physical health. Britain, for example, this month announced planned restrictions that \u200bgo further as gaming and live-streaming platforms will also be affected.<\/div><div>The eSafety Commission and Communications Minister Anika Wells have said \u200cthey \u2060are preparing legal action against multiple platforms, which face a maximum fine of A$49.5 million ($34 million) if they are found to have systemically failed to uphold the ban.<\/div><div>Reddit (RDDT.N)<svg><\/svg><span>, opens new tab<\/span> has launched a High Court challenge of the ban, which is still in preliminary hearings.
