{"id":3023,"date":"2026-06-26T18:13:13","date_gmt":"2026-06-26T18:13:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/reliablemovingcrews.com\/?p=3023"},"modified":"2026-06-26T18:13:13","modified_gmt":"2026-06-26T18:13:13","slug":"un-agency-working-to-restart-hormuz-evacuations-after-ship-attack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reliablemovingcrews.com\/?p=3023","title":{"rendered":"UN agency working to restart Hormuz evacuations after ship attack"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Summary<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>LONDON, June 26 (Reuters) &#8211; The United \u200bNations is working with countries to resume the evacuation of hundreds of ships \u200cand thousands of stranded seafarers from the Strait of Hormuz after the effort was halted earlier this week, a top U.N. agency official said on Friday.<\/div>\n<div>The U.N.&#8217;s International Maritime Organization said on Thursday it had &#8220;temporarily paused&#8221; \u200bits evacuation initiative after a container ship operated by Taiwan&#8217;s Evergreen was attacked.<\/div>\n<div>Some 115 vessels \u200band around 2,500 seafarers were able to sail through the strait before \u2060evacuations were paused, IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez told a virtual news conference.<\/div>\n<div>Dominguez said he was working &#8220;vigilantly&#8221; \u200bwith several parties and was having conversations with countries \u2014 particularly Oman, the United States, and Iran \u2014 &#8220;in \u200border to find these guarantees that were provided at the beginning, that vessels will not be targeted&#8221;.<\/div>\n<div>&#8220;As soon as I get further confirmations of that, we&#8217;re ready to re-initiate the process of evacuation,&#8221; he said, though he \u200badded he could not provide a timeframe for a resumption.<\/div>\n<h2>EVACUATIONS WILL TAKE WEEKS TO COMPLETE, \u200bIMO CHIEF SAYS<\/h2>\n<div>Tehran on Friday reasserted its right to control shipping in the critical waterway and warned its Gulf neighbours \u200cagainst \u2060siding with Washington.<\/div>\n<div>Dominguez said his main point of contact in Iran was with its maritime authority and foreign ministry.<\/div>\n<div>&#8220;I need to actually maintain the positive approach that progress is being made in the whole conflict and at least vessels are also safely sailing through,&#8221; he said.<\/div>\n<div>He added that \u200bthe IMO was investigating &#8220;the \u200breasons and motivation&#8221; for \u2060the ship attack.<\/div>\n<div>The evacuation plan provided two channels for sailing out through the strait, either via Iranian waters in the north or Omani waters \u200bin the south.<\/div>\n<div>The so-called Traffic Separation Scheme, adopted by the IMO in \u200b1968, established \u2060routing lanes through Iranian and Omani waters in the strait.
