U.S. gold futures \u200bfor August delivery lost 0.8% to $4,063.50\/oz.<\/div>\n<div>Bullion posted a 1.7% weekly decline on Friday \u200band was on track for a fourth straight monthly loss of \u2060more than 10%.<\/div>\n<div>Iran and the United States agreed to halt recent hostilities in \u200bthe Gulf and renew talks regarding their dispute over the Strait of Hormuz, a \u200bU.S. official said on Sunday.<\/div>\n<div>Iran launched missiles and drones at U.S. military sites in Kuwait and Bahrain early on Sunday, shortly after President Donald Trump threatened that the Islamic Republic would cease to \u200bexist if it did not honor an agreement to end the war.<\/div>\n<div>&#8220;Gold prices are \u200bunder pressure as investors remain uncertain about the progress of U.S.-Iran peace talks,&#8221; said ActivTrades analyst \u200cRicardo Evangelista, \u2060adding that renewed flare-ups could lift energy prices, revive inflation concerns and reinforce hawkish central bank expectations.<\/div>\n<div>Crude oil prices were higher on the day.<\/div>\n<div>While gold is often viewed as a hedge against inflation, its appeal tends to diminish in a high-interest-rate environment \u200bbecause it does \u200bnot yield interest.<\/div>\n<div>Markets are \u2060pricing in three Fed rate hikes this year, with about a 61% chance of a rate hike in September, CME&#8217;s FedWatch \u200btool showed.
