{"id":3253,"date":"2026-06-29T12:11:15","date_gmt":"2026-06-29T12:11:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/reliablemovingcrews.com\/?p=3253"},"modified":"2026-06-29T12:11:15","modified_gmt":"2026-06-29T12:11:15","slug":"how-a-thai-teens-night-at-a-pattaya-beach-ended-in-death","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reliablemovingcrews.com\/?p=3253","title":{"rendered":"How a Thai teen&#8217;s night at a Pattaya beach ended in death"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Summary<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>BANGKOK, June 29 (Reuters) &#8211; A 17-year-old Thai girl was on a lively strip \u200bof palm-fringed sand in the seaside city of Pattaya on Wednesday night, where a friend said she met a foreign man and struck up a \u200cconversation.<\/div>\n<div>In the early hours of Thursday, they returned to his apartment, where she was strangled and killed, police said.<\/div>\n<div>Two days later, Thai police said they found the teenager&#8217;s naked corpse, stuffed inside a suitcase and dumped in waist-high grass, near a railway track, a short distance away from the beachfront.<\/div>\n<div>At almost the same time as the body&#8217;s discovery in the early hours of Saturday, Thai \u200bimmigration authorities at Bangkok&#8217;s Suvarnabhumi Airport apprehended a middle-aged Australian man as he prepared to board a flight out of the country.<\/div>\n<div>Now in custody, Simon \u200bPeter Carman has been charged with intentional murder, concealing a corpse, moving or destroying a corpse and abduction of a minor for \u2060indecent purposes, according to Thai police.<\/div>\n<div>Reuters was unable to reach Carman for comment, and police said he has not yet appointed a lawyer.<\/div>\n<div>A spokesperson for Australia&#8217;s Department \u200bof Foreign Affairs and Trade said that it is providing consular assistance to an Australian detained in Thailand and declined to comment further.<\/div>\n<div>In Pattaya, a popular beach resort known \u200bfor its colourful night life and an epicentre of illicit sex tourism, police said that Carman had made a partial confession.<\/div>\n<div>&#8220;He said he did not intend to kill her, but admitted strangling her, causing her death,&#8221; Police Colonel Anek Srathongyoo, the superintendent of Pattaya City police station, told Reuters.<\/div>\n<div>&#8220;He stated that they had an argument and, during the altercation, he strangled the woman.&#8221;<\/div>\n<h2>BLACK SUITCASE<\/h2>\n<div>Authorities were \u200bfirst alerted to a missing person at around 5 p.m. local time (1000 GMT) on Friday when a friend of the victim reported to Pattaya City police station that she \u200bhad disappeared after being seen walking with a foreign man, according to a police statement issued on Saturday.<\/div>\n<div>But initial leads were thin. &#8220;All that was known was that the man took her to a \u200ccondominium,&#8221; the \u2060statement said.<\/div>\n<div>Police then began scouring CCTV footage and searched an apartment where they found a passport of the suspect, but were unable to trace either the man or the girl. It was not clear how Carman hoped to leave the country without his passport.<\/div>\n<div>CCTV footage, released by police, shows a girl in jeans and a taller man in shorts and black sleeveless t-shirt holding hands and walking into a lift around 3:35 a.m. on Thursday.<\/div>\n<div>&#8220;On the day of the incident, he was out walking when he met \u200bthe victim,&#8221; Anek said, referring to Carman.<\/div>\n<div>&#8220;They \u200bstruck up a conversation, decided to \u2060continue spending time together, and later returned to his condominium.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div>Reuters could not immediately determine why the girl agreed to visit the suspect&#8217;s apartment. International law enforcement and charities have long raised concerns about sexual exploitation in the area, particularly of children.<\/div>\n<div>Following an argument \u200bthat led to Carman allegedly strangling the victim to death, the suspect initially kept the corpse in the suitcase, only \u200blater taking it out \u2060of the building, police said.<\/div>\n<div>A second CCTV video shows the man, dressed in similar clothes, dragging out a large black suitcase.<\/div>\n<div>Reuters was able to confirm the location from the building, road layout, elevator and floor patterns, which matched archive and satellite images. The suitcase was verified to be the same one found by Thai police later, containing the victim&#8217;s body.<\/div>\n<div>The \u2060autopsy results \u200bare still awaited and investigators are continuing to gather evidence, which will be submitted to prosecutors who \u200bwill decide on the indictment, Anek said.<\/div>\n<div>The girl&#8217;s stepmother, Oradee Bussarakum, said when they saw news coverage of the suitcase they feared the worst.<\/div>\n<div>&#8220;We were scared,&#8221; she said. &#8220;We just hoped it wouldn&#8217;t turn out the \u200bway we feared.
