WASHINGTON, May 29 (Reuters) – A judge on Friday \u200bordered the removal of President Donald \u200cTrump\u2019s name from the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, ruling that the \u200biconic Washington venue cannot be \u200brenamed without an act of Congress.<\/div>\n
U.S. \u2060District Judge Christopher Cooper in Washington \u200bdirected the Trump administration to take \u200bdown all physical signage bearing Trump\u2019s name and to eliminate any references to a \u201cTrump Kennedy \u200bCenter\u201d from official materials within 14 \u200bdays.<\/div>\n
“The Kennedy Center\u2019s organic statute makes crystal clear \u200cthat \u2060the Center is to be named for President Kennedy, and it cannot bear any other formal name or \u200bpublic memorial \u200bbased \u2060on the Board\u2019s unilateral say-so,” Cooper wrote. “Congress gave the Kennedy \u200bCenter its name, and only \u200bCongress \u2060can change it.”<\/div>\n
Cooper ruled in a lawsuit brought by Democratic U.S. Representative \u2060Joyce \u200bBeatty.<\/div>\n
The White House did \u200bnot immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
