MOSCOW, May 29 (Reuters) – Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday that it was too early to say if the drone \u200bwhich crashed into an apartment block in Romania was \u200cRussian and suggested it could have been a Ukrainian drone.<\/div>\n
NATO accused Moscow on Friday of reckless behaviour and pledged to “defend every inch of Allied \u200bterritory” after Romania said a Russian drone had crashed \u200binto an apartment block in the alliance member state \u2060during an attack on neighbouring Ukraine.<\/div>\n
“Who in Romania says that \u200bthis is a Russian drone?” Putin asked reporters at a news \u200bconference in Astana, Kazakhstan. He said he had only just heard of the incident as he had been in talks all day. “No one can \u200bsay what the origin of this or that drone is \u200buntil an examination has been carried out,” he said.<\/div>\n
Putin said that \u200cUkrainian \u2060drones had previously been spotted in Finland, Poland and in the Baltic countries.<\/div>\n
“The first reaction was exactly the same as it is now in Romania: The Russians are coming,” Putin said. “Then, \u200bafter a short \u200btime, it turned \u2060out that it had nothing to do with Russian drones.”<\/div>\n
Putin also pushed back against \u200bremarks by European Commission President Ursula von der \u200bLeyen, who \u2060accused Russia of crossing another line with the incident, saying that she had not examined the drone debris herself.<\/div>\n
Putin suggested that \u2060Romania share \u200binformation about what happened and potentially \u200bdrone fragments so that Moscow could conduct its own investigation.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
